This city is located 20 miles west of downtown Dallas and 12 miles east of downtown Fort Worth. Sitting on an area of 99 square miles, the city of Arlington TX has about 95.8 square miles land, while the rest of the area is covered by water.

History

The city of Arlington TX is known for its rich soil, and that’s also why a lot of European settlers came to this area in the 1840s. At Marrow Bone Spring there is a trading post that was established after the Texas Army won the battle against the Native Americans in 1841. The agricultural industry in Arlington was growing fast since then. In 1884 This city has already become the center of cotton ginning and farming center. The city itself was founded in 1876 and taken its name from the Arlington House in Arlington, Virginia that belongs to General Robert E. Lee.

But the population in the city of Arlington TX started to grow very rapidly after the arrival of a General Motors assembly plant in 1954, which marked the large scale industrialization era in this city.

In 1925 Arlington’s population was estimated at only 3,031. The number grew dramatically to 7,692 in 1950 and jumped to the number of 90,229 in 1970. The number just kept growing rapidly, in 1970 the population of Arlington was 261,721 and the number grew to 374,000 in 2011. It didn’t stop until then, the population of this city is still growing today.

59% of the population is white, the other races occupied this city are African American (18.8%), Asian (6.8%), Native American (0.7%), Pacific Islander (0.1%), and other races (14.6%).
